Limitless Living Blog #59 - Scarcity is a Mindset

Scarcity is a Mindset

I've come to learn about the scarcity mindset. I've seen people have it and I've seen people not have it. Scarcity is defined as: “the state of being scarce or in short supply; shortage.” The definition tells us it's a state of being, meaning it’s a mindset. We have to transition out of this mindset and step into a positive mindset. My name is Scotty and welcome to the 59th blog post here on the Limitless Living Blog. Thanks for tuning in.

Before we get started on today’s blog post, I want to make this clear. Am I one of those guys who just harps on constantly having abundance? If you trust in the Lord, you’ll be rich, because He’ll just bless you so much economically? No, I'm not. However, I do believe if we’re in a constant state of fear from scarcity, we start to focus on ourselves a lot, unintentionally. So in a way, you become selfish. If we are in a positive thinking mindset, we should be blessing others. We can't be blessing others financially if we’re constantly worried about our power bill and rent. It doesn't correlate. We cannot live in fear and trust God at the same time. So choose. Either live in fear or trust the Lord. I hate, with every fiber of my body, the scarcity mindset. Yet I've had the scarcity mindset in my life one time or another. The worst part of all, when you have that mindset active in your life, it takes over your entire mind. Trust me, I've been there. It gets no better. I have friends, personally, who have this mindset. I try to get them to understand that they’re living in a scarcity mindset. What do I mean by that? All of their decisions are based on economics, in a bad way. I constantly hear the following sentences:

“I can't afford that.”

“I would love to take that trip if I won the lottery.”

“Man, gas is so expensive nowadays.”

“Have you seen how expensive eggs are?!”

Do you see how every single sentence is about money, scarcely? As in “we don't have enough.” It’s like everyone wants to win in all aspects of life, but never admit to having a scared mentality with money. To me, this gets old very quickly. Do I need a Rolls-Royce to be happy? Absolutely not. My wife and I recently bought a used Subaru, and we were ecstatic. So, does money buy happiness? Does material items buy happiness? Absolutely not, I'm not that shallow to think that. But not worrying about money does take a certain level of pressure off your back. Get that dang monkey off of your back and stop having a scarce mindset. Every time we pay our bills, we’re just looking forward to next month, making sure we can pay our bills again. Not knowing we’re skipping from the 1st of the month to the 1st of next month, simply because of scarcity.
