Limitless Living Blog #5 - Self Assess

Self Assess

The gift to self assess can help you, save you, mentor you. Self assessing is so important not only in your career, but in life. This is Scotty and welcome to the fifth blog post on the Limitless Living Blog. Thanks for tuning in.

What is self assessing? It is being honest with yourself and your gifts. Having a true, dependable conversation that allows you to be feel free yet truthful with yourself. To say “ I’m great at this, but that isn’t my strong suit.” Knowing your strengths and weaknesses. So self assessing isn’t just about what you can’t do, but what you can do.

If we would be able to do this, it would possibly eliminate some thoughts of “I’m not good enough.” Or “I can’t compare to them.” To look in the mirror and really understand these thoughts, would potentially be freeing.

For example, I love playing basketball, even to this day. However, I know I’m not good enough to be a trainer or to be in the NBA. Therefore, I know my career path is not going to be basketball. That’s self assessing. That’s self awareness. Knowing I’m not going to the NBA allows me to understand that I’m not using basketball as my gift that provides for my family. It’s not a negative, rather a positive. But on the flip side, I’m good at other things that I can use to provide for my family. Self assessing what those things are may be challenging, but possible.

Process

  1. Understand that self assessing is a positive not a negative.
  2. Don’t be afraid to self assess your talents and gifts. Self assess your marriage, your strong points, negative points.
  3. Ask God how to use your gifts and talents when you identify them.
