Limitless Living Blog #3 - Fear of Failure

Fear of Failure

Welcome everyone to our third blog post on the Limitless Living Blog. This one is titled Fear of Failure. My name is Scotty and today I’m going to talk about this fear that holds us back so often. Why do we fear failure so much? Why do we fear what others think? Why do we fear the unknown?  Why do we fear big ideas and dreams? Well for some of us, it’s simply what people think. We try to people please. We try to assume we have it all together, we have the big bank account, because we’re so consumed with opinions of ourselves. For others, they struggle with simply failing. Scared of jumping in the deep end, not being able to swim. Well I understand that, I’ve been there multiple times. However, when I’ve done that, I’ve already failed. If I climb all of the stairs to get on the diving board and not jump but run back down, I missed out on an opportunity to enjoy something I never have done. And if I hate it, I never have to do it again. If I never swim on the deep end of the pool, I won’t experience any growth staying in the 3 feet area. So if I want any growth in my life, I must go to deep ends I never been to. For example; opening a business, having tough conversations in my marriage, waking up super early to spend an hour alone with God. Simple yet effective things. But if I want an average life with average outcomes, then I can stay right where I’m at.

So we have some options in life. Remember, you only get one chance at this thing called life. After this it’s either heaven or hell. So with that being said, we can at least attempt to swim on the deep end and grow, or stay where we’re at. If we do swim on the deep end, we may experience some tough challenges we wouldn’t have in the 3 feet area. But failing is actually never trying. It’s not failing in the deep end. It’s cliche I know, but it’s a lesson not a loss when you at least try and fail. When you open that business and put all your energy into it, if it doesn’t work, I promise there are jobs out there you can go right back to. I’m not saying quit your job if you have bills past due, but if you’re in a position to start a business in any capacity and you've always wanted to, do it! So just try it, the upside is incredible. You could be your own boss for the rest of your life, and make however much you want to make. It requires more of you, but we have a God that’s big, He can and will help when you call out.

Process:

  1. Figure out if you want to swim in the 3 feet area or the deep end.
  2. If you want to swim in the deep end and want more for your life, have a clear understanding of what it actually takes and pray to God for that type of faith.
  3. Write the vision and make it plain. Get around others with the same goals and dreams.
